The retreat is just a 15-minute drive from Montego Bay; 20 minutes from the cruise ship terminal; 60 minutes from Negril; and 90 minutes from Ocho Rios. If you are looking to experience authentic Jamaican bars or restaurants, the town of Hopewell is just a 20-minute drive in the other direction. Rose Hall is 28 km from the retreat. The nearest airport is Sangster International, 12 km from Waterfield Retreat. If you are not renting a vehicle, we recommend our paid transfer to and from the airport, which is less costly than a taxi and less likely to cause delays in getting here. If you are renting a vehicle, we recommend renting a vehicle capable of handling the rough roads of rural Jamaica.
During your stay at the Waterfield Retreat, you can expect to be treated like a special guest of the hosts, British expats James and De Waterfield, who have been coming to Jamaica for almost 30 years but now live full time in a separate wing of the Main House. They are happy to provide any assistance they can give to their guests to make their stay in Jamaica as enjoyable as possible. They offer a range of services from transport and tours to private catering for all your needs, from breakfast on your balcony to dinner by the pool. James’ many years of experience as an executive and personal chef assure you of the highest quality meals.
If you are interested in hosting a private party, such as a special birthday, wedding or other celebration; bachelor or bachelorette party; or business retreat, they will be happy to tailor the food and accommodations to make your event extra special. Catering is also available for private cocktail parties or pool parties, subject to availability.
The final “touch of home” at Waterfield Retreat is provided by the other two permanent residents – Cookie and Vibes. These two friendly dogs will welcome any attention you want to give them, as they hang out around the pool and the living lounge most of the day. If you are a solo traveler, Cookie feels it is her obligation to keep you company. She will spend the night at your doorstep or even in the room with you, if you’d like.
To ensure the peace and tranquility of the retreat atmosphere, there are no televisions or phones at the retreat; however, Wi-Fi is available in all rooms and public areas. Room rates include accommodation only – transportation, drinks, meals and tours are all available for an additional fee.
